Tom Perrotta's ten favorite books

Tom Perrotta is the bestselling author of nine works of fiction, including Election and Little Children, both of which were made into Oscar-nominated films, and The Leftovers, which was adapted into a critically acclaimed, Peabody Award-winning HBO series. His other books include Bad Haircut, The Wishbones, Joe College, The Abstinence Teacher, Nine Inches, and his newest, Mrs. Fletcher.

In 2017 he shared his ten favorite books at Vulture.com. One title on the list:
The Autobiography of Malcolm X, as told to Alex Haley

Is there a more American book than this bitter indictment of America? It’s a kind of Horatio Alger story, a small-time pimp and hustler educating himself in prison, undergoing a religious conversion, and reinventing himself as a fearless truth-teller and political firebrand. Malcolm’s voice is alive on the page from the very first sentence.

The Autobiography of Malcolm X is among David Olusoga's ten key political texts on black consciousness and Alexei Sayle's top ten books about revolutionaries.
