Four books that changed Alison Lester

Alison Lester (Australian Children's Laureate, 2012-2013) is one of Australia's most popular and bestselling creators of children's books. One of four books that changed the author, as shared at the Sydney Morning Herald:
The Poisonwood Bible
Barbara Kingsolver

I read an enormous number of books, so sometimes they blend together. But The Poisonwood Bible always stands tall in my memory. It's huge, colourful and intricate, full of wisdom and observations and the stupid father with his nutty ideas that the family has to go along with made me more of a feminist than I was before.

The Poisonwood Bible appears on Lucy Inglis's top ten list of books that explore pioneer life, Allegra Frazier's top five list of books to remind you of warmer climes, Segun Afolabi's top ten list of "on the move" books, and John Mullan's list of ten of the best snakes in literature.
