Five top YA novels

Luke Kelly, who happens to be Roald Dahl’s grandson, is the author of the new children's book, Blanket and Bear, A Remarkable Pair, illustrated by Yoko Tanaka.

One of Kelly's favorite young adult novels, as told to The Daily Beast:
The Fault in Our Stars
by John Green

This recent best seller follows Hazel Grace Lancaster whose parents force her to attend a cancer support group where she falls in love with a fellow sufferer, Gus. Their mutual support of each other and realizations of self worth define the story, with their attachment to the book 'An Imperial Affliction' tracking the later half of the story. This incredibly poignant book is beautifully constructed and truly wonderful.

The Fault in Our Stars is among Sophie McKenzie's five favorite Young Adult books that appeal to teenagers.

"[The Fault in our Stars] is just as incredible as everyone says. I say that not as an adult reading a YA book, either, but as a person reading a fantastic book, period," writes Kimberly McCreight. "The Fault in our Stars is truly one of the best books I’ve read in a very long time, maybe ever. The characters are so nuanced and yet so utterly relatable and the writing is subtle and lovely."
