The Phoenix Pencil Company by Allison KingRead about another entry on the list.
Loner Monica Tsai is a college freshman who’s always found solace into the digital world. She’s counting down the days until she can return home to her grandparents who raised her, while working on a project that uses technology to connect people. Her grandmother, Yun, worked at a pencil factory in Shanghai during WWII, where the women in her family used a magical process to preserve memories. But now Yun’s memory is fading, and Monica is determined to find her grandmother’s long-lost cousin, Meng, to reconnect with family and restore a legacy — maybe with a little help from a new friend.
