William Stoner in Stoner by John WilliamsRead about another father on the list.
Named by many as the novel of 2013, despite being published in 1965 (I’ll leave you to look up the story of the rediscovery). Stoner is, by every measure, a classic. And Stoner himself is a beautiful character, though often painful to read. He is a father who loves and wants to care for his daughter, but finds himself involuntarily estranged from her. Heartbreaking.
Stoner is among Colum McCann's top ten novels featuring poets.
