Quentin Tarantino was inspired by Leonard’s work. Originally, he planned to adapt Freaky Deaky or Killshot, but fell in love with Rum Punch when he read it. Changing the title he cast Pam Grier, the goddess of 1970s tough girl pictures, as the air-stewardess and con-artist Jackie Brown.
Rum Punch is one of Ben Mankiewicz's six favorite books.
