Lee Child's 6 favorite debut novels

Lee Child is the author of the Jack Reacher thrillers.

For readers of The Week magazine, he recommended six debut novels that led to greater things, including:
Casino Royale by Ian Fleming

Fleming was disillusioned after World War II and had a girlfriend who was pregnant, which back then meant a reluctant marriage. So he briefly escaped to Jamaica and wrote a spy novel he didn't think was very good. But a publisher took a chance, and James Bond became an icon. What if there'd been no pregnancy?
Read about another entry on Child's list of debut novels.

Casino Royale also made Danny Wallace's six best books list, Mary Horlock's list of the five best psychos in fiction, John Mullan's list of ten of the best floggings in fiction, Meg Rosoff's top 10 adult books for teenagers list, and Peter Millar's critic's chart of top spy books.

Learn about Lee Child's hero from outside literature and the fictional character he would most like to have been.
