Nine must-read Southern Gothic novels

Lo Patrick is a former lawyer and current novelist living in the suburbs of Atlanta.

Her debut, The Floating Girls, earned a starred review from Publishers Weekly, was a finalist for the Townsend Prize for Fiction, and was a Reader's Digest Editor's Pick.

Patrick's newest novel is The Sins of Summer Daughters.

At People magazine the author tagged nine top Southern Gothic novels. One title on the list:
Sing Down the Moon by Robert Gwaltney

Gwaltney’s second book is a masterclass in the Southern Gothic fever dream. A steamy, blurred reality propels protagonist Leontyne Skye into adolescence and on her quest to both embrace and escape her family legacy. There are haints, fantastical characters and magic potions, all entangled in a bleak but romantic reality. The atmosphere and setting are so immersive that one has to shake oneself back into reality after putting the book down.
