Ten top contemporary nonfiction titles for Black History Month

At People magazine senior books editor Lizz Schumer tagged ten inspiring and educational nonfiction books to read this Black History Month. One title on the list:
The Three Mothers: How the Mothers of Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, and James Baldwin Shaped a Nation by Anna Malaika Tubbs

History is too often taught as a series of actions undertaken by men. In this biography, the author reveals the importance of three extraordinary mothers in shaping the Civil Rights movement. Without the strength and vision of these three African American mothers, the book asks, would we even have known the leadership of King, the vision of Malcolm or the clarity of James Baldwin's words?
